Welcome to the Underground
The years between the Kennedy assassination and Nixon’s resignation were tumultuous. This was true nowhere more than in the southern states. While many believe the South to have been a monoculture, a place where one mind supported the war in Vietnam and clung to segregation, the publications found here smash such a view. Young writers across the southeast banded together in cities, small towns, universities, and military bases with a singular purpose – to write, illustrate, print, and distribute media that was representative of their dissenting voices.
